Abstract
This letter presents an independent dual-polarization reconfigurable reflectarray antenna (RRA) with high aperture efficiency. Two pairs of patches and four varactor diodes are fabricated on a single layer to achieve over 360° continuous phase shift control in dual polarizations with good linearity. When the incidence angle varies from 0° to 50° in the TM and TE planes, the maximum phase and amplitude deviations are only 34° and 1.7 dB. The carefully optimized patch arrangement and bias circuits provide the element with independent phase control capability and a cross-polarization isolation of over 35 dB. A 12 × 12 element prototype was fabricated and measured. Experimental results demonstrate that the prototype supports ±60° 2-D beam scanning in both polarizations. For x - and y -polarizations, the measured aperture efficiencies are 52.2% and 51.1%, respectively, and the corresponding measured 3 dB gain bandwidths are 16.9% and 17.7%. The proposed design can improve the coverage area of the transmit antenna because of the high aperture efficiency, which is believed to be a good candidate for simultaneous wireless power and information transfer (SWIPT).
期刊介绍:
IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters (AWP Letters) is devoted to the rapid electronic publication of short manuscripts in the technical areas of Antennas and Wireless Propagation. These are areas of competence for the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (AP-S). AWPL aims to be one of the "fastest" journals among IEEE publications. This means that for papers that are eventually accepted, it is intended that an author may expect his or her paper to appear in IEEE Xplore, on average, around two months after submission.
