Abstract
This letter presents an active, dual-band frequency selective surface (ADDFSS) with miniaturized unit cells and independent frequency and amplitude tunabilities. The structure consists of a top graphene sandwich structure (GSS), an intermediate polymethyl methacrylate spacer, and a bottom reconfigurable FSS. Biasing varactors in different resonant units enables independent tuning of the two passbands. The low and high bands cover 1.61 GHz to 3.82 GHz and 2.54 GHz to 6.54 GHz, with relative bandwidths of 81.4% and 88.1%, respectively. Increasing the GSS bias from 0 V to 4 V lowers the graphene sheet resistance from about 230 $\Omega$/sq to 60 $\Omega$/sq, and enables over 54% amplitude tunability. An equivalent-circuit model agrees with the full-wave simulations and validates the independent frequency and amplitude tuning. The compact, coplanar, and conformal architecture suits adaptive radomes and electromagnetic skins requiring frequency-agile transmission and controllable in-band scattering.
期刊介绍:
IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters (AWP Letters) is devoted to the rapid electronic publication of short manuscripts in the technical areas of Antennas and Wireless Propagation. These are areas of competence for the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (AP-S). AWPL aims to be one of the "fastest" journals among IEEE publications. This means that for papers that are eventually accepted, it is intended that an author may expect his or her paper to appear in IEEE Xplore, on average, around two months after submission.
