Abstract
We study the effect of low-intensity broadband terahertz radiation in the frequency range of 0.2–1.5 THz on the binding of bovine serum albumin (BSA) with ions of biologically essential metals calcium, cobalt and nickel. BSA film preparations were irradiated for 60 min. The methods of high-performance liquid chromatography and EPR spectroscopy were used to record the effects. It is shown that the degree of binding of the studied metal ions to irradiated BSA is higher than to non-irradiated BSA. The degree of binding of the calcium ion, which has the largest radius, is less than for cobalt and nickel ions. THz irradiation leads to a decrease in the aggregation of BSA molecules in aqueous solution in the presence of metal ions compared to non-irradiated protein. To explain the obtained results, numerical simulation of BSA aggregation and its interaction with metal ions was carried out, and the functional groups of BSA responsible for these processes were determined.
