Abstract
The paper considers the problem of suppressing the noise of local sources of interference in sonar active mode. Three adaptive algorithms for spatial–frequency–time processing of signals from a multielement antenna array—the compensation algorithm, the standard Capon algorithm, and the Capon algorithm with limited levels of the major eigenvalues—are investigated in terms of their noise immunity for detecting echo signals. According to the simulation results, the compensation algorithm provides the highest noise immunity when using both a tone and an chirp probe signal. This algorithm allows for the suppression of noise from intense local sources of interference, including when the angular distance between the directions of arrival of the echo signal and the interference source signal is less than the width of the receiving antenna’s radiation pattern.
