Abstract
The relationship between the composition, structural-phase state, and tribological characteristics of ion-plasma coatings based on high-entropy alloys of the CrTiZrNbHf and CuCrMnFeCoNi systems obtained by cathodic arc deposition and magnetron sputtering was investigated. The study included scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive analysis, X-ray diffraction analysis, nanoindentation, and tribological testing at temperatures of –60 ± 5, +25, and +150 ± 5°C using the ball-on-plate scheme. It was found that the CrTiZrNbHf coating forms a multiphase nanocrystalline partially amorphous structure with a BCC lattice, with a significant deviation from equiatomicity (>30%). The CuCrMnFeCoNi coating forms a single-phase FCC structure of a solid solution with a chemical composition close to equiatomic. The hardness of coatings based on high-entropy alloys of the CrTiZrNbHf and CuCrMnFeCoNi systems is three times higher than the value for a 40NiCrMo6 steel substrate. A comparison of tribological properties revealed that the CuCrMnFeCoNi coating has the lowest coefficient of friction at room temperature, and wear resistance is three to eight times higher than that of CrTiZrNbHf over the entire temperature range.
