Abstract
This paper examines the general and current climate characteristics of the semi-desert landscapes of the Caspian Lowland of Dagestan based on data from the Makhachkala meteorological station for the period of 1965–2025. The parameters analyzed include sunshine duration, low-level cloud cover, air temperature, precipitation amount and pattern, number of days with precipitation, and the hydrothermal coefficient. It has been established that since the end of the 20th century, there has been an increase in sunshine and a decrease in cloudiness, which contributes to a rise in air temperature, especially in winter. An increase in the duration of active vegetation growth and the sum of active temperatures is revealed. The dynamic of the precipitation amount is cyclical with heavy rains, playing a significant role and capable of intensifying erosion processes. Hydrothermal conditions generally remain stable, despite the noted fluctuations.
