Abstract
Introduction
Ultrasound is useful in the assessment of polymyalgia rheumatica, a condition characterized by involvement of the shoulder and pelvic girdles. The “Eye of Horus”' sign on ultrasound, corresponding to subacromial-subdeltoid bursitis and biceps brachii tenosynovitis, has been described in this patient.
Case report
A 70-year-old woman presented with pain and limitation in the shoulder and pelvic girdles, along with elevated acute-phase reactants. Ultrasound revealed the “Eye of Horus” sign. A diagnosis of polymyalgia rheumatica was made. She was treated with corticosteroids and methotrexate, showing improvement.
Conclusion
The “Eye of Horus” sign supports the diagnosis of polymyalgia rheumatica.
