Abstract
Developing efficient photocatalysts for purifying volatile organic compounds (VOCs) is faced with a significant challenge in environmental remediation fields. Herein, a novel photocatalyst named Ag-YT was successfully synthesized by anchoring silver quantum dots (Ag QDs) into an yttrium-based organic framework (Y-TBAPy) using a one-pot method. The Ag-YT photocatalyst demonstrates remarkable performance in degrading acetaldehyde, with an apparent quantum efficiency (AQE) value of 10.5% at 420 nm, which is 20.7- and 3.5-times higher than that of pristine H4TBAPy and commercial P25, respectively. Comprehensive characterizations confirm that the synergistic interaction between Ag QDs and yttrium-based metal–organic framework (Y-MOF) can facilitate charge separation and improve light absorption and utilization, thereby boosting the overall photocatalytic efficiency of CH3CHO removal significantly. Mechanistic investigations reveal that Ag QDs can serve as electron reservoirs, then the recombination of carriers is suppressed and the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) is promoted equally. More importantly, the Ag-YT photocatalyst exhibits excellent stability and reusability over multiple activity test cycles. This work not only provides a rational design strategy for modulating metal-supported interactions with MOF-based photocatalysts, but also offers a promising solution for efficiently reducing VOCs abatement in the practical applications.
