Abstract
Silicate transparent microcrystalline glass is widely used as a matrix for rare-earth ions due to its high thermal stability, high transparency, and stable chemical properties. Simultaneously, Tb3+ ions exhibit wide absorption cross section, high luminescence quantum efficiency, and sensitive green light spectral conversion characteristics under strong excitation by solar-blind ultraviolet. Therefore, Na3YSi3O9 silicate glass was used in this study, which contains yttrium (Y) in its crystal phase. It belongs to the same group as terbium (Tb) and provides many crystallization sites for Tb3+ ions. Due to their identical valence states and similar ionic radii, Tb3+ and Y3+ ions are easily interchangeable. Therefore, this structure provides great potential for improving the conversion efficiency, photoluminescence efficiency, and UV conversion efficiency of rare-earth ion Tb3+. In addition, by integrating the glass composite with a silicon-based photoconductor, we successfully fabricated a solar-blind UV detector device and demonstrate its practical application for UV detection from 180 to 400 nm. Notably, its operation waveband reaches to the deep-ultraviolet (DUV) region and surpasses the reported candidates. The progress not only suggests the glass composite can be constructed into complex device, but also provide a valuable solution for new-generation DUV detectors.

The Journal of Rare Earths reports studies on the 17 rare earth elements. It is a unique English-language learned journal that publishes works on various aspects of basic theory and applied science in the field of rare earths (RE). The journal accepts original high-quality original research papers and review articles with inventive content, and complete experimental data. It represents high academic standards and new progress in the RE field. Due to the advantage of abundant RE resources of China, the research on RE develops very actively, and papers on the latest progress in this field emerge every year. It is not only an important resource in which technicians publish and obtain their latest research results on RE, but also an important way of reflecting the updated progress in RE research field.
The Journal of Rare Earths covers all research and application of RE rare earths including spectroscopy, luminescence and phosphors, rare earth catalysis, magnetism and magnetic materials, advanced rare earth materials, RE chemistry & hydrometallurgy, RE metallography & pyrometallurgy, RE new materials, RE solid state physics & solid state chemistry, rare earth applications, RE analysis & test, RE geology & ore dressing, etc.
