Abstract
A facile design strategy for NIR-II fluorophores with
aggregation-induced
emission (AIE) characteristics was presented. This kind of NIR-II
AIE luminogen, TSPCI is an example, is by the strong acceptor–donor
bridging via a twisted quasi-double-bond (TQDB). Theoretical calculations
revealed that the introduction of TQDB was the major factor for quenching
of the photoexcited TSPCI molecule in the solution state. TSPCI showed
excellent NIR-II imaging performance for in vivo dynamic imaging with
high contrast and penetration depth. TSPCI holds great potential as
a building block to easily fabricate activatable fluorescent probes
with superior responsive ability in the second NIR optical window
for in vivo imaging applications.
