Abstract
A novel polymeric adsorbent was prepared by gamma radiation-induced grafting of acrylonitrile and acrylamide onto polypropylene hollow fibers, followed by amidoximation and phosphonic acid functionalization. The adsorbent was characterized by FTIR, SEM, and TGA. Response surface methodology (CCD) optimized uranium adsorption: pH 4.9, 22.6 mg L−1 U, 127 min, achieving 99% removal and adsorption capacity > 180 mg g−1. Kinetics followed pseudo-second-order (R2 = 0.999), and isotherms fitted Langmuir model. The phosphonic group enhanced selectivity and reusability (stable over 4 cycles). The adsorbent shows promise for uranium recovery from aqueous solutions.
