Abstract
This study focuses on the development of drug-loaded and radiolabeled nanoparticles with high carrying capacity for applications in diagnostic imaging and chemotherapy. Stable selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) with controlled size were synthesized through a redox reaction involving ascorbic acid and sodium selenite. Doxorubicin (DOX) was efficiently loaded onto bromelain-capped SeNPs (BR-SeNPs), achieving a loading efficiency of 86.7%. The morphology and physicochemical properties of BR-SeNPs and DOX-BR-SeNPs were characterized using UV–visible spectrophotometry, dynamic light scattering (DLS), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and zeta potential analysis. Radiolabeling of DOX-BR-SeNPs with ⁹⁹ᵐTc yielded an efficiency of ≥91 ± 2%. SPECT imaging in an animal model revealed considerable uptake in the liver, heart, and bladder. Collectively, these findings demonstrate that DOX-BR-SeNPs constitute a promising nanocarrier system for both diagnostic imaging and targeted drug delivery.
