Abstract
Herein, we present the synthesis and catalytic application of a novel Merrifield resin-supported acidic benzimidazolium ionic liquid, [MRmBim][OTs]. The resulting supported ionic liquid was characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller surface area analysis (BET), and dynamic light scattering (DLS). The catalytic activity of [MRmBim][OTs] in the one-pot multicomponent synthesis of decahydroacridine−1,8-dione and octahydroxanthene−1,8-dione derivatives was investigated. The catalytic system afforded the desired products in excellent yields (88–98%) under mild reaction conditions and within short reaction times (7–25 min). In addition, the catalyst showed good recyclability and retained its catalytic activity for seven cycles, demonstrating its potential as an efficient and reusable heterogeneous catalyst for greener organic synthesis.
