Abstract
A series of alkynyl-functionalized salicylaldimine ligands bearing H, NO₂, and OCH₃ substituents and their corresponding complexes [Ni(L1-3)] (1a-c) and Zn(L1-3)] (2a-c) were synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic, thermal, electrochemical, and photophysical techniques. Metal coordination produced red-shifted absorption and emission bands and enhanced fluorescence relative to the free ligands. Among the investigated derivatives, the OCH₃-substituted complexes showed the highest emission intensity, lifetime, and quantum yield, consistent with the electron-donating nature of the substituent and the extended π-conjugated framework. The Ni(II) complexes exhibited substituent-dependent quasi-reversible redox behavior. All complexes showed moderate SHG activity, with only small variations among the different substituents. Overall, the results demonstrate systematic but relatively modest structure-property relationships, arising from the combined effects of metal coordination, π-conjugation, and ligand substituents on the photophysical, electrochemical, and nonlinear optical properties of the complexes, highlighting their promising their photonic and optoelectronic applications.
期刊介绍:
Journal of Fluorescence is an international forum for the publication of peer-reviewed original articles that advance the practice of this established spectroscopic technique. Topics covered include advances in theory/and or data analysis, studies of the photophysics of aromatic molecules, solvent, and environmental effects, development of stationary or time-resolved measurements, advances in fluorescence microscopy, imaging, photobleaching/recovery measurements, and/or phosphorescence for studies of cell biology, chemical biology and the advanced uses of fluorescence in flow cytometry/analysis, immunology, high throughput screening/drug discovery, DNA sequencing/arrays, genomics and proteomics. Typical applications might include studies of macromolecular dynamics and conformation, intracellular chemistry, and gene expression. The journal also publishes papers that describe the synthesis and characterization of new fluorophores, particularly those displaying unique sensitivities and/or optical properties. In addition to original articles, the Journal also publishes reviews, rapid communications, short communications, letters to the editor, topical news articles, and technical and design notes.
