Abstract
Introduction
The Formosa Stroke Network (RAC-F) was created in March 2023 to systematize stroke care with a structured, multidisciplinary approach throughout the province.
Objective
To analyze the implementation and safety of the RAC-F in its first 16 months of operation.
Materials and methods
Data collected between March 2023 and July 2024 were analyzed, including demographic characteristics, risk factors, metrics, and clinical safety outcomes such as symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (SIH) and death.
Results
A total of 237 consultations were received. Of these, 56 (23.62%) corresponded to stroke mimics and 181 (76.4%) were strokes, of which 116 were ischemic (64.08%) and 65 were hemorrhagic (35.91%). The age of stroke patients was 63.6 years (SD 12.2), and 35.9% were women.
Thrombolytic treatment was administered to 34 patients (29.3%). In terms of safety, ICH was observed in 1 patient (2.9%), and 30-day mortality occurred in 3 cases (8.8%).
Discussion
Stroke care within networks optimizes the treatment of time-dependent pathologies. The implementation of RAC-Formosa is a fundamental tool for understanding the epidemiology of the disease, allowing access to intravenous reperfusion treatments, and evaluating the safety variables associated with its operation.
Conclusions
The implementation of RAC-F has been effective and safe, achieving a significant proportion of patients treated with intravenous thrombolysis with a low complication rate, improving equity in access to treatment in the province of Formosa, regardless of geographic location.
