Abstract
This chapter analysed the effect of shadow economy and financial development on inclusive growth in SSA by employing a sample of 41 SSA economies from 1996 to 2018. The study employed the system GMM to estimate the model specification. The study further followed Seo et al.'s [2019] threshold estimation to assess the threshold effect of financial development in the relationship between shadow economy and inclusive growth in SSA. The results from the system GMM revealed that shadow economy and financial development positively influence inclusive growth in the sub-region. Further, financial development positively moderates the relationship between shadow economy and inclusive growth. Similarly, the results from threshold estimation revealed a nonlinear moderation role of financial development in the relationship between shadow economy and inclusive growth.

World Development Perspectives is a multi-disciplinary journal of international development. It seeks to explore ways of improving human well-being by examining the performance and impact of interventions designed to address issues related to: poverty alleviation, public health and malnutrition, agricultural production, natural resource governance, globalization and transnational processes, technological progress, gender and social discrimination, and participation in economic and political life. Above all, we are particularly interested in the role of historical, legal, social, economic, political, biophysical, and/or ecological contexts in shaping development processes and outcomes.
