Abstract
The development of the World Ocean shelf requires a variety of underwater communication tools. In this work, we simulated the shape of electrical pulses generated by 1-ns optical pulses from a photodetector and propagating through a water layer containing bubstons with allowance for scattering from the volume behind the emitter. Attenuation was calculated using Bouguer’s law; cluster scattering efficiency factors were estimated within the Mie theory for submicron particles with a refractive index lower than that of water. It was found that the broadening of a 1-ns optical pulse due to the scattering by bubstons considering the volume behind the emitter does not exceed 0.1 ns at a distance of 20 m; nanobubble clusters in transparent water were found to limit underwater wireless optical communication lines due to radiation attenuation. The results can be used in the design of devices for underwater wireless optical communication.
期刊介绍:
Atmospheric and Oceanic Optics is an international peer reviewed journal that presents experimental and theoretical articles relevant to a wide range of problems of atmospheric and oceanic optics, ecology, and climate. The journal coverage includes: scattering and transfer of optical waves, spectroscopy of atmospheric gases, turbulent and nonlinear optical phenomena, adaptive optics, remote (ground-based, airborne, and spaceborne) sensing of the atmosphere and the surface, methods for solving of inverse problems, new equipment for optical investigations, development of computer programs and databases for optical studies. Thematic issues are devoted to the studies of atmospheric ozone, adaptive, nonlinear, and coherent optics, regional climate and environmental monitoring, and other subjects.
