Abstract
In this letter, a periodic recursive method (PRM) is proposed to rapidly solve wide-angle electromagnetic scattering problems of a series of finite periodic arrays with different numbers of cells, which is called the finite periodic array family (FPAF). First, an appropriate numbering strategy is applied to ensure all arrays in an FPAF exhibit a recursively nested structure, which is the prerequisite for recursive computations. Then, all cells of an FPAF share the same angle-independent macro basis functions, which are constructed solely on the reference cell. The translation invariance property and the adaptive cross approximation algorithm are combined to accelerate the computation of the impedance and reduced matrices. Finally, all reduced matrix equations can be recursively solved by block-LU decomposition. Several numerical simulations are given to verify the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed PRM.

IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters (AWP Letters) is devoted to the rapid electronic publication of short manuscripts in the technical areas of Antennas and Wireless Propagation. These are areas of competence for the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (AP-S). AWPL aims to be one of the "fastest" journals among IEEE publications. This means that for papers that are eventually accepted, it is intended that an author may expect his or her paper to appear in IEEE Xplore, on average, around two months after submission.
