Abstract
A wideband, high-gain millimeter-wave (mmW) endfire Fabry–Pérot Cavity (EF-FPC) antenna with high efficiency has been proposed in this letter. The proposed antenna with a simple structure consists of two metallic slabs and a single-layer printed circuit board substrate. By utilizing the self-mismatch scheme of the interface between substrate and air, intrinsic partial reflection can be achieved without the need for an independent partially reflective surface. Combined with a via-based shaped ground within the single-layered substrate, multiple resonant modes can be excited, contributing to bandwidth and gain enhancement. After measurement, the overlap bandwidth of the antenna is 11.45%, and it has a peak gain of 15.64 dBi. The proposed antenna yields a radiation efficiency of 95% and a maximum aperture efficiency of 92%, respectively. Notably, this is the first time that an EF-FPC antenna with a simple structure is realized. With the characteristics of wideband, high-gain, high-efficiency, low-profile, and low-complexity, the proposed antenna has enormous potential for application in next-generation communication systems.
期刊介绍:
IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters (AWP Letters) is devoted to the rapid electronic publication of short manuscripts in the technical areas of Antennas and Wireless Propagation. These are areas of competence for the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (AP-S). AWPL aims to be one of the "fastest" journals among IEEE publications. This means that for papers that are eventually accepted, it is intended that an author may expect his or her paper to appear in IEEE Xplore, on average, around two months after submission.
