Abstract
A wideband and low-profile magneto-electric (ME) dipole antenna loaded with a metasurface is proposed. First, broadband operation is achieved by combining the resonances of the ME dipole and the metasurface. Then, to address the issue of gain degradation at high frequency, I-shaped slots are introduced on the electric dipole to adjust the current distribution for suppressing the undesired common-mode resonance. The antenna is fabricated by two substrates with a low-profile of only 0.063λcenter (λcenter denotes the wavelength at the center frequency). Both simulation and measurement results confirm that the proposed antenna operates over a frequency range of 10.65 GHz to 16.45 GHz, achieving a bandwidth of 42.8% and a peak gain of 8.7 dBi, covering the majority of X/Ku band. These features make the proposed antenna attractive for conformal antenna and array antenna designs in satellite communication system.
期刊介绍:
IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters (AWP Letters) is devoted to the rapid electronic publication of short manuscripts in the technical areas of Antennas and Wireless Propagation. These are areas of competence for the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (AP-S). AWPL aims to be one of the "fastest" journals among IEEE publications. This means that for papers that are eventually accepted, it is intended that an author may expect his or her paper to appear in IEEE Xplore, on average, around two months after submission.
