Abstract
Biomaterial science involves of study related to medicine, chemistry, biology, material science and tissue engineering. A variety of materials, including metals, ceramics, composites and polymers, are used for manufacturing bioimplants. These implants face a variety of biological settings with varying physical-chemical characteristics, and how they interact with bones and tissues is a difficult problem. The implant needs to meet a number of requirements, including high corrosion resistance, biocompatibility, appropriate mechanical qualities, osteointegration, recipient health, and surgical skill. Blood and other bodily fluid components, which include plasma, proteins, water, chlorine, amino acids and salt, provide a serious corrosion risk to the implants. As per the study of failed stainless implants found that stress corrosion cracking, pitting-induced fatigue fracture, and corrosion from crevice attack account for about 70% of type 316L SS implant failures. PEEK has high X-ray transparency, stable physical and chemical characteristics, and mechanical properties similar to human bones. Surface modification of biomedical implants are frequently undertaken to enhance surface texture, biocompatibility, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance. AgNPs with high antibacterial effectiveness are widely employed in implant surface modification to avoid implant-related infections.
期刊介绍:
Journal of Surface Investigation: X-ray, Synchrotron and Neutron Techniques publishes original articles on the topical problems of solid-state physics, materials science, experimental techniques, condensed media, nanostructures, surfaces of thin films, and phase boundaries: geometric and energetical structures of surfaces, the methods of computer simulations; physical and chemical properties and their changes upon radiation and other treatments; the methods of studies of films and surface layers of crystals (XRD, XPS, synchrotron radiation, neutron and electron diffraction, electron microscopic, scanning tunneling microscopic, atomic force microscopic studies, and other methods that provide data on the surfaces and thin films). Articles related to the methods and technics of structure studies are the focus of the journal. The journal accepts manuscripts of regular articles and reviews in English or Russian language from authors of all countries. All manuscripts are peer-reviewed.
