Abstract
A polemic is given regarding the volumetric properties that Panem and coworkers reported in their published paper. For two of the three binary systems studied, the authors’ calculated numerical values of the excess molar volumes, \(V_{m}^\text{E}\) , were found to be inconsistent with the measured density data reported in the paper. The observations provided in the commentary raise concerns regarding the quality of the published density data.

Journal of Solution Chemistry offers a forum for research on the physical chemistry of liquid solutions in such fields as physical chemistry, chemical physics, molecular biology, statistical mechanics, biochemistry, and biophysics. The emphasis is on papers in which the solvent plays a dominant rather than incidental role. Featured topics include experimental investigations of the dielectric, spectroscopic, thermodynamic, transport, or relaxation properties of both electrolytes and nonelectrolytes in liquid solutions.
