Abstract
This study investigates the molecular interactions in binary mixtures of benzylamine with three trialkylamines (triethylamine, tripropylamine, and tributylamine) over the temperature range 298.15–308.15 K at 5 K intervals under atmospheric pressure. Thermodynamic properties such as excess molar volume and excess molar isentropic compressibility were calculated using experimental data on density and speed of sound. These parameters were analyzed to assess studied liquid systems deviations from ideal liquid system behavior and to determine the formation of molecular interactions in benzylamine and trialkylamine liquid systems. The observed data were correlated using the Redlich–Kister and Jouyban–Acree models. Excess molar volume and excess molar isentropic compressibility showed negative deviations from ideality, indicating that benzylamines and trialkylamines have strong associative interactions via hydrogen bonding and efficient molecular packing. Using thermodynamic results, we explain the effect of temperature on molecular interactions.

Journal of Solution Chemistry offers a forum for research on the physical chemistry of liquid solutions in such fields as physical chemistry, chemical physics, molecular biology, statistical mechanics, biochemistry, and biophysics. The emphasis is on papers in which the solvent plays a dominant rather than incidental role. Featured topics include experimental investigations of the dielectric, spectroscopic, thermodynamic, transport, or relaxation properties of both electrolytes and nonelectrolytes in liquid solutions.
