Abstract
Designing highly efficient catalysts for the direct conversion of syngas to C2+ alcohols is crucial for the effective utilization of coal-based resources and the enhancement of national energy security. In this study, a series of Na-modified CoFe/Al2O3 catalysts were synthesized via the impregnation method, and their catalytic performance in syngas-to-alcohol reactions was systematically evaluated. Multiple characterization techniques, including XRD, N2 adsorption-desorption, H2-TPR, XPS, DRIFTS, in situ Raman and Mössbauer spectroscopy, were employed to elucidate the synergistic effects of Na and Fe promoters on the catalyst structure and catalytic behavior. The results demonstrate that Na facilitates the formation of Co-Fe alloy sites during the reaction. Simultaneously, Fe modifies the electronic state of Co species and promotes the transformation of lattice oxygen into adsorbed oxygen, thereby increasing the concentration of surface oxygen vacancies. The synergistic interaction between the alloy and carbide sites enhances the CO insertion capability of olefin intermediates, leading to a significantly improved selectivity towards C2+ alcohols. Under the conditions of 260 °C and 2 MPa, the Co1Fe1Na1 catalyst exhibited optimal performance, achieving a total alcohol selectivity of 45%, with C2+ alcohols accounting for 94.1%. This study provides novel insights into the rational design of Co-based catalysts for the efficient conversion of syngas to C2+ alcohols.

Journal of Fuel Chemistry and Technology (Ranliao Huaxue Xuebao) is a Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS) journal started in 1956, sponsored by the Chinese Chemical Society and the Institute of Coal Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS). The journal is published bimonthly by Science Press in China and widely distributed in about 20 countries. Journal of Fuel Chemistry and Technology publishes reports of both basic and applied research in the chemistry and chemical engineering of many energy sources, including that involved in the nature, processing and utilization of coal, petroleum, oil shale, natural gas, biomass and synfuels, as well as related subjects of increasing interest such as C1 chemistry, pollutions control and new catalytic materials. Types of publications include original research articles, short communications, research notes and reviews. Both domestic and international contributors are welcome. Manuscripts written in Chinese or English will be accepted. Additional English titles, abstracts and key words should be included in Chinese manuscripts. All manuscripts are subject to critical review by the editorial committee, which is composed of about 10 foreign and 50 Chinese experts in fuel science. Journal of Fuel Chemistry and Technology has been a source of primary research work in fuel chemistry as a Chinese core scientific periodical.
