Abstract

We report, for the first time, a continuous-wave (CW) multi-wavelength Nd:SrAl12O19 (Nd:SRA) laser operating on the 4F3/2 → 4I13/2 transition. The conditions of gain-to-loss balance required for simultaneous multi-wavelength operation were determined via a birefringent filter (BRF). This enabled simultaneous lasing at six dual-wavelength pairs (1333/1339, 1339/1346, 1339/1384, 1346/1365, 1365/1376 and 1376/1384 nm), two triple-wavelength groups (1339/1376/1384 and 1365/1376/1384 nm) and a four-wavelength combination (1339/1365/1376/1384 nm). Wavelength switching between these combinations was realized by rotating the BRF or replacing it with BRFs of different thicknesses. Under an incident pump power of 20 W at 792 nm, the dual-wavelength operation at 1339/1384 nm yielded the highest total output power of 2.85 W. The corresponding output powers for the triple-wavelength (1339/1376/1384 nm) and four-wavelength operations were 1.08 W and 617 mW, respectively.
