Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to examine the extent to which nursing students experience discrimination during clinical placements and the role of gender in this context.

Methods: In a cross-sectional online survey, N=117 nursing students reported experiences of discrimination, gender, and gender role orientation. Correlations and regression analyses were conducted.

Results: More than half of the students reported experiencing discrimination occasionally or regularly. Female students reported higher levels of discrimination than male students (M_f=4.27 vs. M_m=2.99, p=0.001). No significant associations were found with gender role orientation.

Conclusion: These findings quantify discrimination against nursing students and highlight female gender as a contributing factor. Universities and healthcare training institutions should be aware of and sensitive to the needs of this minority group.
