Abstract
High-power-density superconducting machines represent a potential enabling technology for the transition to future electric flight. A homopolar inductor alternator with a high-temperature superconducting (HTS) field coil is intended to function as a generator in a turboelectric powertrain. In this study, a cryogen-free, non-insulated HTS coil, operating within the temperature range of $\mathbf{20} \, \mathbf{K}$ to $\mathbf{30} \, \mathbf{K}$, was fabricated and tested. For this, the thermal and electrical performance was measured while operating with a cryocooler.
