Abstract

Raw Meat-Based Diet (RMBD) or BARF (Bones And Raw Food) diet are based mainly on the use of raw meat in dogs’ and cats’ feeding. These animals are exposed directly to a variety of sanitary risks, in particular pathogens (viruses, bacteria and parasites) that are present in this type of food. In this review, the authors present the main parasitic infections in dogs resulting from the consumption of BARF, namely infections caused by protozoa such as Toxoplasma gondii and Neospora caninum and those caused by helminths (Nematodes, Trematodes and Cestodes). Infestation severity depends on the parasite: some are highly pathogenic for both humans and animals, while others pass through the dog's digestive tract without parasitizing it. A better knowledge of parasitic infections associated with the BARF diet in dogs would help reducing the impact on animal and human health, as well as animal welfare.
犬类食用BARF(骨与生食)饮食的寄生虫风险
