Nomenclature Survey of the Genus Amaranthus (Amaranthaceae). 13. The Identity of Amaranthus tortuosus

Abstract

The name Amaranthus tortuosus, a species described by Hornemann in 1819, is currently treated in different ways, either as an accepted name, as a synonym of A. dubius or A. hybridus s.str., or as an unplaced name. In order to clarify its application, we reassessed its taxonomic identity within the genus Amaranthus. This study also considered the nomenclatural framework of a set of related names to ensure consistent application. Our results confirm the synonymy of A. tortuosus with A. hybridus, while several associated names are placed under different accepted taxa. The nomenclatural status of all treated names is updated in accordance with the ICN.
