Abstract

This letter presents a novel high-frequency transformer (HFT) structure with built-in leakage inductance and integrated power electronics circuits for isolated dc–dc converters. The developed hexagonal-shaped HFT is constructed using multiple U26/22/16 ferrite cores and is designed to operate at high switching frequencies. Unlike conventional designs, both the primary and secondary windings are wound around the central limbs, enabling precise control of leakage inductance and eliminating the need for bulky auxiliary inductors in dc–dc dual active bridge converters. In addition, the design integrates SiC mosfets, gate drivers, and a heat sink directly within the magnetic assembly, thereby reducing packaging volume and achieving a more compact converter structure. The electromagnetic characteristics of the HFT are analyzed using 3-D finite-element simulations in COMSOL, with results showing close agreement with design predictions. A prototype has been fabricated and experimentally validated, confirming the feasibility and effectiveness of the approach for high-power converter applications.
