Abstract

Thanks to the excellent care of complex urogenital malformations during the neonatal period and childhood available today, an increasing number of patients require competent long-term care in adulthood. Ideally, urology takes responsibility for the transition of these individuals, who have a lifelong need for urological follow-up care. Only if adequate knowledge is available and maintained will these patients receive appropriate care throughout adult life. This care is demanding and must be reimbursed appropriately. Solid basic training in urology, as well as specialized additional training in paediatric and adolescent urology, can help to train competent experts.
