Abstract
This paper presents an improved 2-bit coding metasurface reflector employing a mechanical sliding operation with enhanced robustness. The unit cell is redesigned by widening the upper-layer element and removing the parasitic element used in the conventional structure. As a result, the allowable sliding tolerance increases from ±0. 05 mm to ±0.15 mm, corresponding to a threefold improvement in robustness while maintaining a phase error of only 15°. Furthermore, a 1 × 18 reflector array is analyzed, confirming that the proposed design achieves correct reflection angle switching and exhibits scattering patterns comparable to the conventional structure.
