Abstract
The effect of a thin-layer antifriction coating, which is based on immiscible Cu–Mo constituents and is deposited by magnetron sputtering on a VT6 titanium alloy, on the wear resistance in the course of running-in the VT6 titanium alloy–ShKh15 steel friction pair is studied. The sample was compared with that made of the VT6 alloy without the applied antifriction coating. The element composition of the thin-layer coating sprayed in an argon atmosphere and a nitrogen-containing argon atmosphere is studied using a Jeol JCM-5700 scanning electron microscope. The adhesion strength of the coating is determined using the scribing (scratch) technique. The dependences of the element composition, microhardness, coefficient of friction, and volumetric wear on the nitrogen concentration in the argon atmosphere in the course of deposition are found. Analysis of the obtained data shows that coatings consisting of nitrogen-deficient films exhibite the highest hardness and wear resistance.
期刊介绍:
Russian Metallurgy (Metally) publishes results of original experimental and theoretical research in the form of reviews and regular articles devoted to topical problems of metallurgy, physical metallurgy, and treatment of ferrous, nonferrous, rare, and other metals and alloys, intermetallic compounds, and metallic composite materials. The journal focuses on physicochemical properties of metallurgical materials (ores, slags, matters, and melts of metals and alloys); physicochemical processes (thermodynamics and kinetics of pyrometallurgical, hydrometallurgical, electrochemical, and other processes); theoretical metallurgy; metal forming; thermoplastic and thermochemical treatment; computation and experimental determination of phase diagrams and thermokinetic diagrams; mechanisms and kinetics of phase transitions in metallic materials; relations between the chemical composition, phase and structural states of materials and their physicochemical and service properties; interaction between metallic materials and external media; and effects of radiation on these materials.
