Abstract

Simple organic molecules that can directly activate carbon–hydrogen bonds when photoexcited are effectively limited to carbonyls. Now, neutral acridines, nitrogen-containing aromatic heterocycles, are demonstrated as tunable nitrogen-based photoactive catalysts and applied to varied C–H functionalization reactions.
