Role of therapeutic plasma exchange in paraquat poisoning: Our experience.

Abstract

Paraquat poisoning is a leading cause of fatal poisoning in many parts of Asia. It can lead to multiorgan dysfunction. It is actively concentrated in lung tissues leading to pulmonary fibrosis. The case fatality is very high in this herbicide due to the lack of effective treatment options. Here, we present our experience of a young female with a history of paraquat poisoning presented with acute kidney injury with acute respiratory distress syndrome managed symptomatically and using therapeutic plasma exchange as a treatment modality.
