Abstract
Objective
To describe a clinical experience in nursing practice using a voice recognition artificial intelligence tool.
Method
A hospital management initiative based on observation and description of a clinical nursing practice experience focused on the use of a voice recognition-based artificial intelligence tool, applied in an intensive care unit at Fundación Cardioinfantil - LaCardio. This experience contrasts 2 clinical documentation practices: one performed using Dragon Medical One software and the other through traditional transcription.
Results
A 15-min reduction was observed in the nurse who used the voice recognition tool for nursing documentation compared to the one who documented using traditional methods. The quality of nursing records was excellent; both groups avoided the use of acronyms or abbreviations, were timely, and adhered to the SAER technique –Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendations, and Risks–. A distinctive factor in the voice-generated notes was that 77.78% required editing to ensure transcription accuracy.
Conclusions
The use of the Dragon Medical One voice recognition system reduced nursing documentation time by 50% compared to traditional typing. Dictated notes were more detailed and met the standards of the SAER model, enhancing the quality and continuity of care.
