RETRACTION: Green Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles Using Water Extract of Salvia leriifolia: Antibacterial Studies and Applications as Catalysts in the Electrochemical Detection of Nitrite

The above article, published online on 25 September 2017 in Wiley Online Library (wileyonlinelibrary.com), has been retracted by agreement between the journal Editor-in-Chief, David Morales-Morales; and John Wiley & Sons Ltd. A third party reported that the TEM image in Figure 5B contained multiple duplicated areas. These concerns were confirmed by the publisher. In addition, multiple concerns were raised regarding impossible, contradictory, and unexplained details in the articles’ Experimental section.

The authors responded to an inquiry by the publisher and reported that the TEM experiments were outsourced and that the duplicated sections in the image may be due to artifacts introduced during scanning. After multiple requests, the authors did not provide a response to the further concerns noted in the Experimental section and did not supply original data as requested.

The retraction has been agreed to because the evidence of image manipulation in Figure 5B, as well as multiple unexplained errors or questionable details in the Experimental section, fundamentally compromise the editors’ confidence in the results presented in the article. The authors did not respond to our notice regarding the retraction.
