Abstract

Electrocatalytic C─N coupling through the coreduction of NOx and inorganic/organic carbon sources offers a sustainable route to value-added organonitrogen compounds, yet it remains constrained by four generic challenges: energetic barriers, kinetic mismatch, selectivity loss, and system-level limitations. Through the lens of these four challenges, this review highlights the recent research on dual-site catalysts for electrocatalytic C─N coupling reactions. This review discusses how cooperative dual centers can promote substrate activation, regulate intermediate reaction kinetics, suppress competing pathways, and improve catalytic performance under system-level constraints. Furthermore, we outline emerging methodologies for further design optimization based on dual-site catalysts and point to future directions that extend beyond the design of dual-site catalysts.
