Abstract
Purpose: To describe a rare case of paracentral acute middle maculopathy in the postprocedural period of median sternotomy for atrial myxoma.
Methods: History, systemic and ophthalmic evaluation, optical coherence tomography (OCT), and visual field testing.
Results: A 77-year-old female developed new-onset blurred vision ten days after surgical resection of a left atrial myxoma. Ophthalmic examination and OCT findings were consistent with paracentral acute middle maculopathy (PAMM).
Conclusion: PAMM is a rare retinal ischemic condition that may occur following systemic vascular insults. This case highlights a previously undocumented association between left atrial myxoma resection and the development of PAMM.
