Abstract
The patient was a 73-year-old man. He had upper thoracic esophageal cancer, cT3N2M0, cStage Ⅲ, and underwent definitive CRT (60 Gy + 2 courses of FP), which resulted in a CR. He was subsequently found to have early-stage mid- and hypopharyngeal cancer, and underwent radiation therapy (50 Gy). He was found to have a local recurrence, and underwent a thoracoscopic subtotal esophagectomy as a salvage procedure. The postoperative course was uneventful. Although balloon dilatation was necessary many times for anastomotic stenosis, he has been alive without recurrence for 2 years after surgery.
