Abstract
Objective: To report the diagnosis and treatment of an orbital choristoma in a 2-year-old male jaguar (Panthera onca).
Animal studied: Jaguar (Panthera onca).
Procedures: The patient presented with unilateral periorbital edema, strabismus, exophthalmia, epiphora, and conjunctivitis. Initial diagnosis was achieved via general physical and ophthalmic exams, ultrasound, computed tomography, and cytology. The cystic structure was surgically excised and submitted for histopathology.
Results: Histopathology provided definitive diagnosis of a choristomatous cyst of lacrimal or conjunctival origin. Recovery was successful, without complications or recurrence.
Conclusion: This is the first report of an orbital choristoma in wild felids, reinforcing the importance of advanced imaging and a multidisciplinary approach for the management of rare pathologies.
