Abstract
Female labourers of Bangladesh's ready-made Garments sector face challenges due to inadequate wages and fewer workplace amenities. Despite their contribution to Bangladesh's blooming economy and making up 80% of the workforce, these labourers lack social protection services. Thus, they are potentially excluded from essential social and economic resources. This study investigates the experiences of 25 female labourers in the absence of social protection mechanisms through semi-structured open-ended interviews. Using a rights-based approach, this study advocates the development of social protection policies, and identifies that, respondents demand social assistance programmes such as cash transfer and fund assistance for maintaining their families.

The Journal aims to publish the best research on international development issues in a form that is accessible to practitioners and policy-makers as well as to an academic audience. The main focus is on the social sciences - economics, politics, international relations, sociology and anthropology, as well as development studies - but we also welcome articles that blend the natural and social sciences in addressing the challenges for development. The Journal does not represent any particular school, analytical technique or methodological approach, but aims to publish high quality contributions to ideas, frameworks, policy and practice, including in transitional countries and underdeveloped areas of the Global North as well as the Global South.
