Abstract
How to coordinate the heat dissipation and heating requirements of each subsystem of the thermal management system and its components is an important research direction of the hybrid electric vehicle. Active Grille Shutters (AGS) can reduce the internal flow resistance, balance the heat dissipation requirements of thermal management system and reduce the wind resistance to reduce fuel consumption, and has become an important component of vehicle thermal management system (TMS). Although AGS control strategies have been applied in the automotive industry, there is still a lack of mature and comprehensive control solutions for energy efficiency optimization. In this paper, three-dimensional Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation software STAR-CCM+ is used to establish a three-dimensional vehicle model and analyze the changes of the flow field in the engine compartment under the steady-state condition of full open and full closed active grille. Then, a one-dimensional engine compartment model is introduced into the vehicle TMS of GT-SUITE, and a new AGS opening control strategy considering the coupling of aerodynamic and thermal management is proposed for low SOC initial value. The results show that when the initial SOC values are 0.2 and 0.3, the average resistance coefficient of the AGS control strategy is significantly lower than that without active grid, and the fuel consumption can be reduced by 0.65% and 0.89%, respectively.
期刊介绍:
Case Studies in Thermal Engineering provides a forum for the rapid publication of short, structured Case Studies in Thermal Engineering and related Short Communications. It provides an essential compendium of case studies for researchers and practitioners in the field of thermal engineering and others who are interested in aspects of thermal engineering cases that could affect other engineering processes. The journal not only publishes new and novel case studies, but also provides a forum for the publication of high quality descriptions of classic thermal engineering problems. The scope of the journal includes case studies of thermal engineering problems in components, devices and systems using existing experimental and numerical techniques in the areas of mechanical, aerospace, chemical, medical, thermal management for electronics, heat exchangers, regeneration, solar thermal energy, thermal storage, building energy conservation, and power generation. Case studies of thermal problems in other areas will also be considered.
