Abstract
Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is one of the most common causes of vertigo. The lateral semicircular canal (LSCC) is implicated in 5–30% of cases, but its incidence is probably underestimated. Diagnostic and therapeutic management varies according to the location of the lithiasis within the canal, and requires a degree of expertise. The difficulty in diagnosis lies in determining the location of the lithiasis and the incriminating side. This is an essential prerequisite for effective therapeutic maneuvers. The aim here is to describe the main techniques for diagnosing and managing lithiasis of the lateral semicircular canal.
