Abstract

Introduction

Implementing interventions adapted to people with moderate to severe physical disabilities to promote active aging represents a societal challenge. The aim of the present article is to present a model developing the possibility to maintain the autonomy of older adults with physical disabilities through the promotion of mental health.

Discussion

This article defends the importance of activities adapted to the needs and abilities of older adults with physical disabilities and supports the importance of the mediating role of motivational processes in the directional link between the promotion of mental health and autonomy maintenance in this population.

Conclusion

Limitations and perspectives of the model are discussed.
