Abstract
G. Rigos, F. Padrós, M. Constenla, et al., “ Global Warming Affects the Pathogenesis of Important Fish Diseases in European Aquaculture,” Reviews in Aquaculture18, no. 1 (2026): e70112, https://doi.org/10.1111/raq.70112.
The authors would like to draw readers' attention to several errors in the article, mainly in Tables 3 and 4 and the nomenclatures in several sections.
(1) In the abstract section, the fourth sentence read as follows:
“Field data is still largely fragmented, but in vitro experiments reveal that almost 28 microbial diseases in European finfish farming could be facilitated by climate warming.”
However, the correct sentence should be:
“Field data is still largely fragmented, but in vitro experiments reveal that almost 30 diseases in European finfish farming could be facilitated by climate warming.”
(2) In the published version, two pathogens—Enteromyxum leei and Sparicotyle chrysophrii—were inadvertently missed out in Table 3. The correct Table 3 and its caption are shown below.
(3) Table 4 included the section “Monogenea,” which is a term that is no longer accepted. This section should instead be separated into two different sections, “Monopisthocotyleans” and “Polyopisthocotyleans.” The correct Table 4 is shown below.
(4) In section “4.1.1: Viruses Affecting Marine Farmed Fish Species,” the tenth paragraph includes the following sentence:
“ΝΝV is also affecting farmed Senegalese sole [57, 86] with optimum water temperature during experimental infections reported to be 22°C.”
The correct sentence should be:
“ΝΝV is also affecting farmed Senegalese sole [57, 86] with optimum water temperature during experimental infections reported to be 22°C.”
(5) In section “4.2.2: Bacteria Affecting Freshwater Farmed Fish Species,” the nomenclature “Lactococcus garvieae” in the sixth paragraph should be corrected to “L. garvieae.”
(6) In section “4.3.1: Parasites Affecting Seawater Farmed Fish Species,” the nomenclature “I. multifiliis” in the first paragraph should be corrected to “Ichthyophthirius multifiliis.”
(7) The heading in the section “4.3.1.6: Myxosporeans” should be corrected to “4.3.1.6: Myxozoans.”
(8) In the section “4.3.1.8: Monopisthocotylans,” the nomenclature “Diplectanum sciaenae” in the second paragraph should be corrected to “D. sciaenae.”
(9) In the section “4.3.2.1: Ciliates,” the nomenclature in the first sentence “Ichthyophthirius multifiliis” should be corrected to “I. multifiliis.”
(10) In the section “4.3.2.3: Myzozoa,” the term “Myxozoa” in the first sentence should be corrected to “Myzozoa.”
(11) The heading for the section “4.3.2.4: Myxosporeans” should be corrected to “4.3.2.4: Myxozoans.”
(12) In the section “5.3: Bacterial Pathogens,” there are several errors:
a. The nomenclature “Streptococcus agalactiae” in the ninth paragraph should be corrected to “S. agalactiae.”
b. The first sentence in the tenth paragraph is as follows:
“P. damselae subsp. piscicida induces only 4% mortality in gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata) (60-day-old and 0.3 g) maintained at a constant temperature (15°C for 5 weeks), but sudden temperature shifts dramatically increase the mortality.”
The correct sentence should be:
“P. damselae subsp. piscicida induces only 4% mortality in gilthead seabream (60-day-old and 0.3 g) maintained at a constant temperature (15°C for 5 weeks), but sudden temperature shifts dramatically increase the mortality.”
c. The twelfth paragraph includes the following sentence:
“In contrast, warm-water fish (tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus, white sturgeon, Acipenser transmontanus, ornamental koi, Cyprinus rubrofuscus) show no mortality at the tested temperatures [369], which is their optimum physiological temperature.”
The correct sentence should be:
“In contrast, warm-water fish (Nile tilapia, white sturgeon, Acipenser transmontanus, ornamental koi, Cyprinus rubrofuscus) show no mortality at the tested temperatures [369], which is their optimum physiological temperature.”
(13) In the section “5.4.1: Protist,” the nomenclature “Ichthyophthirius multifiliis” in the first paragraph should be corrected to “I. multifiliis.” In the second paragraph, the nomenclature “Neoparamoeba pemaquidensis” should be changed to “N. pemaquidensis.”
(14) The heading for the section “5.4.2: Myxosporidae” should be corrected to “5.4.2: Myxozoan.”
(15) In the section “6.2: Species Diversification,” the third sentence in the second paragraph is as follows:
“Farming tropical farmed fish, such as cobia or tilapia, can be an option in some instances, but should not be recommended if these species can escape, establish, and reproduce in local aquatic ecosystems, becoming problematic exotic species.”
The correct sentence should be:
“Farming tropical farmed fish, such as cobia (Rachycentron canadum) or Nile tilapia, can be an option in some instances, but should not be recommended if these species can escape, establish, and reproduce in local aquatic ecosystems, becoming problematic exotic species.”

The journal publishes fully peer-reviewed review articles on topics including global, regional, and national production and market trends in aquaculture, advancements in aquaculture practices and technology, interactions between aquaculture and the environment, indigenous and alien species in aquaculture, genetics and its relation to aquaculture, as well as aquaculture product quality and traceability. The journal is indexed and abstracted in several databases including AgBiotech News & Information (CABI), AgBiotechNet, Agricultural Engineering Abstracts, Environment Index (EBSCO Publishing), SCOPUS (Elsevier), and Web of Science (Clarivate Analytics) among others.
