Abstract
Objective: This study examined the effectiveness of intensive home treatment (IHT) for young adults (18-30 years) compared with full inpatient psychiatric care over a 12-month follow-up period.
Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted using routine hospital data from the Vivantes Klinikum Neukölln, Berlin. The analysis included 178 patients treated in IHT (intervention group, IG) and 356 inpatients (control group, CG), matched at a 1:2 ratio using propensity scores.
Results: The 12-month readmission rate was significantly lower in the IG (36.6%) compared with the CG (51.9%).
Conclusion: IHT appears to be an effective treatment option for young adults and may offer advantages over full inpatient psychiatric care.
