Abstract
The stability of a pipeline conveying fluid is vital for its safe operation and is equally critical for mitigating underwater acoustic pollution, as flow-induced pipeline vibration is a significant source of hydrodynamic noise. This paper examines the application of a squeeze film damper (SFD) in internal flow pipelines, focusing on how the squeeze film effect affects the stability of the pipeline's eigenvalues. The objective of this study is to provide a theoretical framework for developing SFDs suitable for internal flow systems. To accomplish this, we developed a mathematical model of a fluid-conveying pipe that accounts for the effects of the SFD. We investigated the eigenvalue problem of the pipe system to understand how the squeeze film effect influences its dynamic stability. The research examined the impact of squeeze film thickness, kinematic viscosity coefficient, and the installation position of the SFD on the eigenvalue stability of the pipe system. Numerical results reveal that both the thickness of the squeeze film and the kinematic viscosity coefficient are critical factors affecting the stability of eigenvalues in the pipe system. Additionally, the mode of instability in the pipe is an important consideration when determining the optimal installation position for the SFD.
