Abstract
Objective: To analyze the effects of computer cognitive training (CT) and biofeedback training (BFT) based on electroencephalography (EEG) in persons aged 55 and older, using the program's electronic databases on the preservation of cognitive skills and psycho-emotional health at the Moscow Longevity Centers.
Material and methods: Electronic databases were analyzed based on the results of two specialized courses, «Neurotraining of Cognitive Skills» (Group 1) and «Neurocorrection of Psychoemotional State» (Group 2), as part of the program at the Moscow Longevity Centers. Group 1 included 13.379 subjects (median age 72 [69.0; 77.0] years), Group 2 included 11 697 subjects (66 [63.0; 73.0] years). Group 1 used computer CT with an assessment of the following indicators of cognitive functions based on the integral score: individual reasoning performance (IRP), memory, attention, and reasoning. For Group 2, EEG-based BFT with neurophysiological parameter assessment was used. All indicators and parameters were followed up on. The effectiveness of the methods was assessed after 10 sessions.
Results: In Group 1, a statistically significant increase in all cognitive function indicators by both 5 and 10 CT sessions (p<0.001) was observed. Moreover, the more sessions were completed, the more pronounced the effect was (p<0.001). After CT, improvement in all parameters was observed in most subjects (>90%). In Group 2, the data analysis also showed a statistically significant improvement in neurophysiological parameters after the EEG-based BFT in the vast majority of subjects (89.3%).
Conclusion: The results indicate a high potential for the studied non-drug methods to support cognitive and psycho-emotional health. Therefore, these methods should be recommended for wide use in preventive programs for persons 55 years and older.
