[Autism: Insistence on invariance. Understanding and treatment].

Abstract

The issue of insistence on invariance, resistance to change, in the field of autism is addressed. We explain the intense and direct relationship between the development of self-regulation skills, along with social development and communication skills, which does not occur as expected in autism, and the emergence of a functioning pattern in autistic individuals characterized by insistence on invariance. We also explain how to address resistance to change in the physical and social worlds, as well as in the processing of sensory information, when treating autism.
